I headed for Prairie City on the night of May 27th, 2000 to get my camera set up for a line of storms that was heading in from the northwest. I could see the lightning way off in the distance as I was getting into position. All of a sudden, they were reporting tornadoes in the area between Altoona and Des Moines. I packed up and hurried in that direction but was too late for the tornadoes when I got there. I was however, right in the middle of one of the most violent lightning storms I can remember.
